You read repeatedly and dealers will tell you that collectors’ homes are full. And that the industry is struggling to attract and retain younger collectors of American antiques. So, who is purchasing all that stuff? Auction after auction has high sell rates. Lot after lot lists as being sold. Where is all that stuff going? We are talking about thousands and thousands of pieces a month.
Is it the high-end collectors who are diminishing in number, the middle market? What is languishing in dealers’ shops and at auction because of fewer collectors? I do not know and I cannot figure out the puzzle.
If you have any ideas, let me know.
Thanks.
