The Shakers were not that numerous in number of communities or members. It amazes me how many of their round or oval boxes, often with fingers have survived to the present day. The Shaker members must have spent a great deal of time making those boxes if so many survived.
More seriously, how does a collector or dealer really know if that lapped box is Shaker or simply a box, or a fake altogether? Curious. An awful lot of Shaker boxes for sale.
