The Thrill Isn’t Always for the Best

I had a most interesting experience at Karen’s Show – The Collectors’ Fair – in Manchester this year. A quick walk through found me absent of love. A slower walk through also confirmed there would be no “wonderful” antique for me this year. But a dealer new to the show, dealt in part in silver. He had a nice selection of coin silver spoons. My wife and I have many. We don’t look for a specific region or maker. We simply love their look and display them at the holidays, polished and glimmering. They also are a wonderful gift to someone who has just had a baby. When the infant is teething if you feed him or her with a coin silver spoon the bowl has their teeth marks indented in it.

So, there I was, with a selection of coin silver spoons, identified and fairly priced, probably just above what they would be worth if melted down. I chose a group of six and a group of four. I have found them hard to find as dealers do not make much unless they are Southern or have another pedigree.

I was thrilled spending $173.00. It made my day.
